Hair brings one’s self-image into focus; it is vanity’s proving ground. Hair is terribly personal, a tangle of mysterious prejudices. ~Shana Alexander
2016 is in full swing, I mean we are about to enter the month of May already! With the sun coming out to play, I wanted to try something a little different. Going crazy and funky with may hair is not something that is unknown to me. If we look back at my own timeline, I have had my share of fun bright colors! I’m not afraid to let my personality out in my hair. I am no stranger to the pointing and the comments that come along with having bright-colored hair.
Living in a small town in Idaho I have always taken criticism with a grain of salt. Just recently in my little town the air has been shifting, its true what they say, “times are changing”. Rewind just 5 years and maybe 5-7% of the entire state was experimenting with color, speed up to today and I’d guess at least 40%! I have seen everyone from children in kindergarten with temporary dye to elderly women in assisted homes with permanent dye color. Heck my own grandma has pink in her hair!
When I finally picked a color, I contacted my stylist so she could set aside the right amount of time. Even with the length of my hair I still knew it was going to take at least 3-4 hours. I’ve had my hair colored before, I know how long it takes to usually lift my hair. The first step in any color if you aren’t starting with blonde hair is lighting! Luckily for me I had virgin hair and a very talented stylist Alexis. I have known this beautiful girl since elementary school! Look at her amazing work: Add her Facebook group to keep up with new color trends!
As I sat in the chair I was also filming! I am currently editing that into a YouTube clip! I will keep you updated as to when that gets uploaded! I talk about my haircut on a guest post; Sincerely Juliette leave me some feedback on their if you are loving the LOB. As far as the blue hair goes I have gotten amazing feedback! One lady’s comment stuck with me however. She said, “you’re so brave, I could never do that to my hair”. I am not sure as to why this bothered me so much, but it did, it hut my heart. Saddened me to think she wasn’t confident enough or comfortable enough to do whatever she personally wanted with her hair.
I can respect the work place requirements on what is appropriate in what job, but if you are scared because of judgment, don’t be. I have a solution for you! If your hair is long enough to pull up into a ponytail, do one statement chunk where your ‘Anakin braid’ would go. If your hair is shorter, do a hidden bang color layer! I’ve seen it happen a hundred times, they start with one color stand and add more and more, till you are like me!
Follow me on Twitter @Ellie_Shots to see my hairs natural faded progression. I also want to note, the color of someones hair is going to be different in every light. All these photos are taken in the same day, one outside, one with flash, one with a filter and one with nothing. Also note everyone’s hair takes color differently there is no guarantee that your hair will hold the color like mine. Once again a big thank you to Alexis at Head2Toe for working around my laptop, and for being so great. My favorite part of any salon service is the one on one you get with a styilist, and Alexis is hilarious.
So y’all tell me what you think, do we love the blue? Is it the next big color of 2016? Drop me a comment.
