Recycled Art Books

Bringing old junk back to life again, that’s what I do. I’m the girl people call when they see free items out on the curb somewhere. Last May I quit my job, I was tired of the rat race. I had no plan, no savings but I knew I could do something. That’s when I did what about a million people a day do. I googled, “How to make money from home”. The choices are almost endless. I started with small things, went through my house and had a yard sale, started couponing and flipping for a profit. It was enough to eat daily, but that was about all. I stepped up my game and went to Pinterest, searched “easy to make and sale items”.

It was here that I found recycled book art, I was instantly in love. I was amazed by the detail, the possibilities, and the uniqueness. I started gathering free books from friends and family and folding away. Last June I was a vendor at a craft show, I had prepared for months. Folding hundreds of books, that had all be donated by people or companies that would have otherwise thrown these books in the trash.Β I was unable to find the exact number of books that are thrown away annually. The number of books that are thrown away is bound to be high considering that the United States consumes 2 billion books every year.

I was nervous at the show that people would make comments about the sadness of folding a book. However once I explained that these books were on their last legs I received a lot of good feedback. Since I started folding I have touched over 500 books, most missing pages or have been destroyed with marker on the inside. The patterns that get most requested are names, and states. I just started experimenting with 3D book art.

Not that long ago I promised a free book, folded to your choice to my 3,500th viewer. The count bar will be hit today! Be sure to watch the counted in the sidebar and screenshot the 3,500! Comment and share this post to be entered into a second chance drawing for flowers sent to you!
